Noted Philadelphia car dealer and philanthropist Gary Barbera is committed to providing kids with the opportunity to learn and grow so they have the tools they need to succeed throughout life. One such way that Mr. Barbera gives back to his local community is by coordinating with YMCA for the organization’s Healthy Kids Day. Healthy Kids Day gives children and their families the chance to enjoy a day of fun and activities, proving that play is just as important as education. This annual event takes place nationwide, and, through his Gary Barbera Cares organization, Mr. Barbera was proud to serve as the host at the Northeast Family Branch YMCA.
The idea is to encourage children and their families to carve out time from busy schedules to focus on activity and family time outside of the home. By spending an hour a day participating in physical activity, like an afternoon at the park or riding bicycles, studies show that children are happier and healthier. In comparison to sitting around the house in front of the television, playing outside can also result in better motor skills, social skills, creativity, and self-esteem. This can translate to better grades in school, as well.
In addition to supporting the local YMCA with Healthy Kids Day, Mr. Barbera and Gary Barbera Cares are also involved in other initiatives and charities that make life better and easier for families and children in need.
