Congratulations to the South Philadelphia string band winner of the top honor in their division!
The band finished first out of 16 string band entrants. On New Year’s Day, the South Philadelphia String Band finished first taking home the top honor in the string band division with a total score of 96.35. Quaker City came in second with 94.90 total points and Fralinger finished third with 93.10 points.
WPHL-17 broadcasted the 120th Philadelphia Mummers New Year Day Parade live. Gary Barbera’s red Jeep Gladiator, the Barbera Bear and the BarberaCares “Don’t Text and Drive” solar-powered recycling kiosks were there along the parade route.
Gary Barbera and BarberaCares thank the award -winning South Philadelphia String Band especially String Band Board of Governors, Fred Vicario, for the special invite to this year’s legendary Philadelphia Mummers Parade. The BarberaCares team enjoyed their exciting performance themed “Carousel”. Of course, the Barbera Bear was in awe of the Big Bear Finale, who wasn’t?
BarberaCares is honored to have been offered the privilege to participate with the incredible South Philly String Band and to be a part of such a time-honored well-loved Philadelphia tradition. It’s always a good time for BarberaCares to encourage the Don’t Text and Drive Community Initiative Safety First! Don’t Text and Drive, Slow Down Phone Down. It was perfect timing too because the BarberaCares increased the number of Don’t Text and Drive solar-powered recycling kiosks around City Hall and along the Mummers Parade route and re-freshened the kiosks to continue the green-up of the city of Philadelphia allowing for extra recycling and trash compactors where the masses of parade spectators are.
